Ortho K (Myopia Control)

What is orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology (also known as Ortho-K) is a non-surgical, fully reversible, vision correction option that gives clear, comfortable vision all day without the use of either glasses or ordinary contact lenses.

The process involves wearing special, hard contact lenses while you are asleep at night, which re-shapes your cornea in a precise and highly controlled fashion. The contact lenses are removed on waking and the reshaped cornea gives clear, sharp vision the next day, without relying on either glasses or contact lenses. If the contact lenses are not worn for several nights the elastic corneal tissue reverts back to its original shape making this technique totally reversible.

Current technology caters for low to moderate prescriptions, and emerging lens designs are extending this range all the time. This process has been approved for all ages and your optometrist can tell you if you are a good candidate for this procedure. The reshaping effect takes one to two weeks to reach its full effect, although there is generally a large improvement after even the first night of wear. The safety and effectiveness of Ortho-K has been demonstrated in independent studies at universities in New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the United States.
